Most matatu operators in Kenya carry a brand tag of goons wherever they go. This is due to bad image that befall this group of service providers due to bad reputation of few rogue individual.
Cases are cited of matatu operators who threw out a passenger from a moving vehicle on Thika super highway. The female passenger hit her head on the pavement and sustained multiple injuries leading to the demise a few days later.
However, crew members of a matatu plying City centre- Westlands- Kangemi route have demonstrated a true human heart. In what started as a mercy call on one rainy day to physically challenged individuals working in Westlands and living in Kangemi, has gone along way to become a routine for two years.
Out of their busy schedule, the matatu operators ferry these physically challenged individuals on daily basis at no extra charge to their destination.
The beneficiaries of this kind service have commended the crew for a job well done and wish them God's blessings.
The driver of the said matatu was cited saying, " I find it satisfying to serve physically challenged individuals because they are people just like other." He we went on to reiterate that, " I have instructed my children that whenever they see a physically challenged individuals they should always be of help."
From this simple act of kindness, more matatu operators will have some good lessons to learn. This will in turn improve their public image.
