Mr Chesire who is Kakamega sub county police commander confirms killing of 5 fire arm wielding suspected gangsters. The incident occurred today at around 2PM in the afternoon along the busy Kakamega Kisumu road near Makohokho trading centre.
The robbery suspects are believed to have been heading to Chavakali from Kakamega town. The suspects had defied a police order to stop and instead fired at the police, forcing the police to shoot back.
Two of the suspects died in the vehicle while the rest were killed as they attempted to flee from the scene. The police recovered several items from the bullet riddled vehicle including phones and two pistols. The five suspected have been linked to an armed gang group that had been terrorising merchants, stealing their cash right after withdrawing from the bank.
Mr Chesire says that the police had been trailing this gang, suspected of several crimes in the western region. Police then had a difficult time controlling members of the public and curious onlookers who had gathered and hindered transport operations along thr busy road.
