KOT Reacts After Ferdinand Waititu is Appointed To Nairobi Rivers Commission

Ferdinand Waititu, a former governor of Kiambu, was one of the nine individuals appointed to the Nairobi Rivers Commission on December 2, 2022.

Waititu, Chairperson Pamela Olet, Representative Mumo Musuva of Nairobi County, Representative Grace Senewa of the Ministry of the Environment, Representative Eva Muhia of the Riverine Communities, Representative Elizabeth Wathuti of the Civil Society, Representative Carlota Dal Lango of the Private Sector, and Representative Prof. Elijah Biama of the Academic Community were among those appointed by President William Ruto.

After Waititu was quoted in August 2018 as saying that river should be shifted out of the way instead of removing buildings built on or near to riparian property, his selection to the panel stood out in particular.

I am observing several events, such as the presence of persons who support building demolition. I disagree with that. Things need to be investigated and discussed.

Waititu advised a group, "If your building is next to a river, you should be told how much to spend to ensure that the river is shifted slightly.

These feelings were brought up once more after he was appointed years later as Kenyans responded to his work on the Commission.

"God will select the people that are rejected," stated Mtunecessary.

"I have had it with Kenya. Is this the person who proposed moving rivers? Indeed, manifestations are effective, said Julie Amira.

"Wait for rivers to be diverted," Riziki Akinyi added.

"The same person who had a legal dispute over constructing on riparian land. "Applause please," said Mundiaa.

"When this guy suggested moving rivers, everybody laughed. "99% of foreign nations divert their rivers rather than razing buildings," claimed Francis Miaraho.

Who has the President's phone number? I want these appointments as well. ", Katulleh said.

"Good, he can now move rivers," CPA Wanyoike added.

The Commission was established to develop plans for protecting, restoring, revitalizing, and beautifying the Nairobi Rivers and all other bodies of water within the Nairobi City County.
