A report by the Auditor General has shown how Nairobi County officials altered receipts to swindle Ksh. 700million from public coffers. The report has revealed that Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control Licensing Board staff cannot tell how the Ksh. 700million was spent.

The audit has found that most of the receipts that were presented by the county were fake and just drafted for cover-ups. The report has been tabled before the Nairobi County Assembly Public Accounts Committee to help know how the swindling took place.

MCAs have been informed that the alcohol board was engaged in dubious acts to cover their dealings. The Auditor General could not find ledgers, receipt books, cash books and payment vouchers supporting more than Ksh. 707million.

Nairobi’s new administration through Governor Sakaja has promised to take a legal action against the board members who misused the resources that belong to the people of Nairobi.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has promised that they will invite the board members to ensure that everything is accounted for. However, he has blamed the past regime for allowing the board to raise its own money and then spend it without accountability.
