DCI Bursts Three People in Possession of Firearms Illegally

Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) nabbed three individuals who were in possession of firearms illegally. Chris Mwangangi and Lucia Wanjiku were driving along the Arwings Khodek and Ring Road junction within Kilimani on the night of August 17, 2021, when they were intercepted by the kilimani-based crime busters.

The detectives were on routine patrol when they spotted a black land cruiser V8 motor vehicle with no front number plate. They became suspicious of the vehicle and immediately flagged it down.

Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, detectives managed to recover one Ceska Pistol with its Serial number erased, one Revolver Pistol and an unidentified frontal Plate Number.

According to the DCI, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver found with the motor vehicle was not the actual owner. The vehicle instead belonged to one Jeff Maina, a close friend of his.

The suspect spoke to the owner informing him that he had been arrested and had been taken to Kilimani police station. This prompted Maina, the owner to drive into the station shortly afterwards. He arrived in a Mercedes Benz.

He was arrested and a quick search conducted inside the Mercedes Benz he had arrived in. The detectives managed to recover two Police Handcuffs, one Ceska Magazine loaded with 7 rounds of 9mm Ammunitions, one Police Pocket Phone and several Identification Cards.

The suspects were placed in custody pending investigations, while the recovered firearms were handed over to our ballistics experts for examination.

The sleuths also arrested a police officer based in Mombasa, who is believed to have given the handcuffs to the suspects.

The arrest comes less than 24 hours after the police gunned down a notorious criminal who had been terrorising people in Nairobi's Dandora area. He was killed while he led a gang of five in conducting a spate of morning attacks on residents.

Fidel, as he was known, was asked to surrender but opted to engage the officers in a shootout after which he was gunned down. Two thugs managed to escape with bullet wounds.

His body was taken to City Mortuary pending identification from family members.
