Miiri village in Mukurweini constituency, Nyeri County, saw a sombre atmosphere as relatives were compelled to bury the body of an 85-year-old grandmother who had been beheaded while asleep by unidentified assailants three months earlier.
The funeral home at Mukurwe-ini Hospital is where Juliah Muthoni's body has been languishing since her death 67 days ago. There, the costs were mounting daily.
The deceased was a member of Catholic Women Action (CWA), and the mass was held at Gathukimundu Catholic Church.
Her nephew Weru Mwangi claims that the family decided to bury their loved ones without locating the head since the mortuary price was rising quickly and they were concerned that it may spiral out of control.
"As the mortuary charge was rising daily and he worried that they could not be able to cover it,we have tried as much to look for her head everywhere with no success and we had no choice but to bury her," he said.
They also voiced their dissatisfaction with the police investigations given the lack of arrests three months later.
