News just in indicates that there is a very serious road traffic on Mombasa Road. Sources indicate that the traffic jam is worse at Mlolongo with motorists forced to spend too much time on the road.
The cause of the traffic jam has been identified. Sources report that the Chinese contractor tasked with building the Nairobi Expressway is hoisting a bridge at Mlolongo and this is the cause of the jam now witnessed on Mombasa.
Kenyans have wondered why the contractor has decided to hoist the bridge during the day as this is the time when Mombasa Road is always busy.
In most situations, when the contractor is to use the highway for contraction works, the motorists are always informed early enough so that they can use other alternative routes.
On the other hand, Kenyans should be patient with the contractor as he race against time to complete the project before the March deadline. Upon completion, Nairobi Expressway is expected to ease the flow of traffic on Mombasa Road.
