Panic as locals found the body of middle-aged expectant doctor inside in a well in Mwonge in Meru South Sub-County, Tharaka-Nithi County.
The 42-year-old deceased, according to locals who thronged the scene said slip and drowned while drawing water from the well.
Tharaka-Nithi County Emergency Department Manager Alex Mugambi said Rosalid Kawira slipped inside the well as she was drawing water on Friday.
He stated that on getting wind of the information, the county emergency officers responded to the scene and successfully retrieved the body and moved it to Chuka County Referral Hospital morgue.
"We successfully pulled the body out and moved it to Chuka County Referral Hospital morgue," said Mr Mugambi.
He said although the borehole is risky, there was sufficient oxygen inside and that the deceased might have choked to death.
Mr Mugambi called upon the residents drawing water from the well to be careful more so during rainy seasons and many areas are slippery.
Ms Grace Wanjiru, a sister-in-law to the lady said they felt something was a mess after the deceased took long at the well and when they came out to look for her, they noticed she had drowned in.
