Road Accident

Six killed, 9 others injured in road accident in Naivasha

Six people were killed and six were injured in a car accident in central Nya Kyle, 15 km from Naivasha .

At least six people were killed in a car accident on a busy highway in northwestern Kenya. Nine people were injured.

John Kwasa, Deputy Commander of the Naivasha District Police, said the accident on Saturday night involved a minibus, locally called Matatu, and a head-on collision truck along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

"The Matatu driver died while being taken to a medical facility in Naivasha. Early investigations showed that the Matatu driver had made a mistake in the accident," he said.

The accident in the center of Nya Kyle, about 15 kilometers from the city of Naivasha, occurred after a truck hit Matatu on the looming head and immediately killed five people. The sixth driver died while being taken to the Naivasha District Hospital.

Kwasa alerted the driver, adding that speeding and inadvertent overtaking were the causes of serious road accidents. According to the

National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA), an estimated 3,000 Kenyans die each year in road accidents, despite the coordinated efforts of the state and private sector to promote highway safety.
