President William Ruto has announced that landless Kenyans, particularly those in the coast region, will no longer be required to pay rent because the government has already begun the process of acquiring their own land. Speaking at a massive infrastructure project in Mtwapa, Kilifi county, the head of state announced that he has begun plans to have those who own land but are not physically present in Kenya transfer their land to locals.
Before the land is given to deserving locals, the president stated that the owners will be engaged and compensated. Some of those who will be affected are those who live in Middle Eastern countries but own large parcels of land on the coast that are rented to locals who will no longer have to pay rent.
"Already, I have kick-started the process. We are identifying the owners, who do not live here so that we can regularise the process," he said.
