Prepare for Heavy Rains in The Next 5 Days If You Live in The Specified Counties


The Month of October is almost coming to an end as heavy rains have been witnessed in several parts of the country. The Kenya Meteorological Department has been working hard to provide accessible meteorological and climatological information to the general public hence creating the infusion of scientific knowledge among the people.


The early warnings and timely updates on the expected weather changes have facilitated the utilization of natural resources hence promoting Socio-economic Growth and Development. The meteorological department has made this possible through the creation of an efficient telecommunications system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological information in accordance with the World Meteorological Organization.


The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided weather forecasting updates whose validity ranges from 26th October to 1st November 2021. According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country during the forecast period.

Rainfall is expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County, the Coastal Strip and the North Eastern Kenya.


1.The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley;[Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega,Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Laikipia Counties],

Morning rains are expected over a few places accompanied with sunny intervals. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places while the nights are expected to be cloudy. There is a chance of night showers likely to be experienced over a few places. These areas are also likely to experience isolated storms during the forecast period.

2.The Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County;[Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi Counties],

The mornings are likely to experience cloudy conditions with light rains which are likely to break into sunny intervals. A chance of afternoon showers is likely to be experienced in several parts of the country while the nights are likely to be cloudy with a chance of showers over several parts.

3.North -Eastern Kenya and the Coastal Strip;[Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties],

A chance of morning rains is expected during the first half of the forecast period while sunny intervals are expected during the second half of the forecast period. The afternoons are likely to have sunny intervals while the nights are set to be cloudy.
