A bus belonging to St.Joseph seminary Boys submerged at River Enziu in Mwingi with several people on board. The bus was trying to cross the flooded river when it tipped over the bridge. The water tides were too strong, consequently sweeping the bus into the river. Some of the passengers could be seen screaming and raising their hands through the windows as the bus sank.
Mwingi East Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Yakan confirmed the incident and said 10 passengers had been rescued and the other 20 confirmed dead. Reports indicate that the bus was carrying 30 passengers who were members of Mwingi Catholic Church. They were traveling to Nuu area from Mwingi town for a wedding.
According to the sub-county commander, the accident was caused by water tides that were too strong hence swept the bus into the river despite the driver trying to take control of the situation. The incident traumatized many people.
