Police disrupt legislator burial service after refusing to follow Covid-19 protocols

Police officers on Tuesday, August 24,2021 disrupted the burial service for Mahoo Ward MCA Ronald Sagurani in Taita Taveta after mourners flouted Covid-19 protocols.

Following a directive by the government through the Ministry of Health, only family members and close relatives are allowed during social gatherings such as burials.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that these social gatherings had become the main reason for faster spreading of Covid-19.

Police officers are said to have stormed at the burial service, kicked out mourners and dismantle the tents.

Following the incident, allies of deputy president William Ruto said that the police received order from above to disrupt the burial service.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in his condolence message to the family, friends and relatives of Sagurani, said he is a progressive politician and blamed cruel hand of death that had taken him away at a time when his constituency still needs his transformative leadership skills.
