One suspected thief was on Monday night burnt beyond recognition in botched robbery attempt in Nyota area, Trans Nzoia County.
The thug was together with two others; a man and a woman who successfully flee using their gateway motorbike and are still on the run.
The trio reportedly broke into a house in Miti Moja, only to be caught by villagers.
Trans Nzoia West Sub-County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia who commented on the matter,urged the locals to take culprits to the police station instead of lynching them.
“It is unfortunate that the culprit was burnt to death by members of the public. I want to urge the residents to stop taking the law into their own hands. They should instead take the culprits to the nearest police station for stern action,” Lobolia said.
It is alleged that the burnt thief identified as Calee was had weired weapons said to be tools used in attacking innocent people.
An eyewitness told the press that the culprit was taken to a nearby bush along Kitale-Endebess road where he was lynched and later burnt.
This comes 14 days after three men were burnt also lynched at the same location. The chaired remains was transferred to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary.
