Good News As Uhuru Is Set To Confer Nakuru Status To A Big City Tomorrow

It will be a privilege to Nakuru county after Uhuru Kenyatta announced that he will award a honour to Nakuru town to become a city.

Uhuru announced Nakuru will join Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nairobi as a city when he addressed the country on Tuesday.

"I will have the honor of awarding City Status on Nakuru Municipality tomorrow." "This is due to devolution," he explained.

"...and with their reputation as East Africa's cleanest town, Nakuru city is looked forward to by the entire country of Kenya."

The Urban Areas and Cities Act aims to give effect to Article 184 of the Constitution, which deals with urban area and city classification, governance, and management.

Before classification as a city, urban areas must have infrastructural facilities like roads, street lighting, markets, fire stations, waste disposal and disaster management capacity.

The Act indicates that they must also have integrated development plans and demonstrate capacity to generate sufficient revenue to sustain operations.
