Residents and pedestrians living around Nithi bridge on Embu -Meru highway woke up to fateful sunday. An incident that was termed as tragedy to them that witnessed.
A 14 seater matatu packed to full capacity rolled at a black spot along the highway leaving two people lifeless , six critically injured and the fate of others not known yet.
The vehicle registered with Ungwana Sacco was hailing from Meru towards Embu when the driver lost its control at Nithi bridge. It rolled several times before landing in a ditch, a few meters from the bridge.
The injured were rushed to Chuka County Referral Hospital to receive treatments while the bodies of those who died taken to the hospital’s morgue.
According to eye witnesses identified as James kimathi said the vehicle was on a very high speed. He said the vehicle might have developed mechanical problem that resulted to brakes failure.
