Drunk Father and 2-Year-Old Son Die While Returning From Looking for Mother

A family in Frank Village, Lugari Location, Kakamega County is in grief after a 37-year-old man together with his two-year-old child were swept by raging River Nzoia following heavy rains in the region.

According to his father Henry Iwenyi, his son Japheth Khatolwa was returning home from Nzoia Village, Bungoma County in pursuit of his wife who reportedly left him with his two years old child and disappeared in an unknown direction.

Reports say Khatolwa appeared drunkard at the time he was seen carrying his son while attempting to cross the swollen Nzoia River, unfortunately he lost balance and was swept downstream by the enraged waters together with his child.

His grandfather Gerrishom Hansi and grandmother Dinah Hansi are deeply saddened by what befell the father and child.

“We have no strength to talk right now, this incident is shocking and confusing,” grieved grandfather Hansi.

Efforts to search for the two are ongoing with the help from Icare School of First Aid funded by the County Government of Kakamega.

The incident was confirmed by Lugari Sub-Location Chief Shadrack Miheso who asked the locals to be careful as they approach Nzoia River during this heavy rain season.

He said the locals should avoid crossing the river especially after heavy downpours.
