Congratulations: Ngunjiri Wambugu's Daughters Achieve Karate Black Belt

The Jubilee MP, on Saturday, May 8, stated that he was a very proud father after his girls endured and sacrificed nearly a decade of training before graduation.

"It’s a journey that’s taken over 10 years. Finally, you have qualified as black belts.

"Onwards and upwards. Well done girls. Very well done," Wambugu gushed.

The MP shared photos of the three performing Karate and Taekwondo skills while wearing karategi, the formal and traditional uniform used for Karate practise and competition.

Black Belt is the highest level or ranking a karateka can achieve after being an expert.

The martial art has several other different colours, from white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, red, brown to black.

Other than Karate and Taekwondo, martial arts professionals can also participate in Tong-Il-Moo-Do, a game that helps trainees - centering on true love - to realize the three fundamental goals of life.

The first is becoming a person of mature character who learns self-control through mind-body unity and develops the capacity to love.

Kenya participates in all three games internationally. Other martial arts include Kickboxing, Aikido, Wing Chun, Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, Western Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Among notable karatekas and martial artists in Kenya, apart from those who represent Kenya is renowned lawyer Patrick Loch Otieno (PLO) Lumumba. The attorney is a black belt karateka.

Others include actors Lupita Nyong'o and Edi Gathegi with musician Akothee still ascending the ladder.
