Woman Arrested Attempting To Steal A Child At KNH Arraigned In Court

A 37-year-old woman who was captured while stashing a pillow on her stomach to look pregnant at KNH labour ward has been arraigned in court.

Elizabeth Syokau Musembi is alleged that on September 23, 2021, at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi was found stashing a pillow on her belly to look pregnant while heading to the Labor ward at the hospital. Investigating officer Jackline Makumba claims the woman who faked the pregnancy is a mother of three kids and has a spouse as indicated by records she tabled in court.

Jackline additionally told senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi that after taking her for a pregnancy test at the hospital she tested negative.

"The suspect was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for a pregnancy test and the doctor prescribed that she be taken to Mathare Hospital for mental assessment, "the affidavit read in parts. As per court documents tabled in court, the police believe that the respondent was at the hospital with intention of stealing a child.

The police sort 5 days to detain the suspect to finish investigations arguing that they are yet to take the suspect to Mathare Hospital for mental assessment to build up in case she is sane.

"Considering the nature of the application, I find that it has merit and detain her at Capital Hill police station for 3 days to finish investigations," the magistrate ruled.
