Janet Otwori Kerubo, a form one student who was allocated a slot at the prestigious Kereri Girls school in Bonchari, Kisii county attempted to cut short her life out of frustration after she was turned away from the school yesterday.
Janet who is a total orphan after loosing both parents in a very painful and controversial way reported to the girls school on admission day yesterday on slippers and had nothing completely.
It has since been established that her father killed the mother sometime back and in retaliation, irate villagers also pounced on the implicated man and killed him mercilessly on the spot rendering her a total orphan.
She is reported to have mixed and taken very strong pesticides. Fortunately she was rushed to the nearby medical facility for detoxification and is currently in stable condition.
Already, the assistant chief Bogita sub-location has written an appeal letter confirming that indeed she is a total orphan and anybody with requisite financial help that can see her join the dream secondary school has been asked to get in touch.
Janet's case is just a tip of the iceberg of the countrywide frustrations experienced by students and parents from humble backgrounds.
