Prepare for Heavy Rains in the Next 7 Days if You Live in the Following Counties


The month of September is coming to an end and the Kenya Meteorological Department has been determined to provide weather forecasting updates in various parts of the country throughout the month. The meteorological department is mandated to provide accessible meteorological and climatological information to the general public hence promoting the infusion of scientific knowledge among the people.


The Kenya Meteorological Department has succeeded in providing timely early warnings in changing weather patterns through the creation of an efficient telecommunications system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological information in accordance to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).


The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided weather forecasting updates whose validity period ranges from 28th September to 4th October 2021.


According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country. The forecast also indicates that occasional rainfall is expected in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.

Detailed regional forecast valid from 28th September to 4th October 2021

1.The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley; [Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Baringo, Nakuru, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Narok and West Pokot Counties],

Light morning rains are expected in the above areas during the forecast period. There is also a high chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms being experienced several parts with cold nights and a chance of Night showers is also expected.

2.The Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County;[ Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi Counties],

The residents of the above areas should be ready for occasional cloudy conditions and a chance of light rains expected in several parts of the country. Sunny conditions are expected in the afternoons while cloudy conditions are expected during the night in the forecast period. There is a chance of afternoon and night showers over several parts of the country during the forecast period.
