Joseph Otieno reportedly died on Friday after he was crushed to death while mining inside Karoki quarry site. According to the area chief Kennedy Sindela, the deceased died on the spot. The miners alerted other villagers about the unfortunate incident but they were also unable to help. The villagers decided to break the stone into three parts to remove Otieno's body. The residents have been warned by the administration to be extra careful while mining to prevent such accidents.
Additionally, the area chief had urged the county government of Homabay to ensure that they make miners to consider safety measures at the site. The body of the deceased was moved to Kendu Adventist Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
