RIP, Grief as Miner is Crushed to Death While Working Inside a Quarry

Residents of Siburi village, Kawathgone Nyongo location, Rachuonyo North Sub-county, Homabay County were engulfed with sadness following the death of a 35-year-old man who was working inside a mine.

Joseph Otieno reportedly died on Friday after he was crushed to death while mining inside Karoki quarry site. According to the area chief Kennedy Sindela, the deceased died on the spot. Those who were working with him were unable to rescue him were unable since the stone that fell on him was too huge.[Photo Courtesy]

The miners alerted other villagers about the unfortunate incident but they were also unable to help. The villagers decided to break the stone into three parts to remove Otieno's body. The residents have been warned by the administration to be extra careful while mining to prevent such accidents.

Additionally, the area chief had urged the county government of Homabay to ensure that they make miners to consider safety measures at the site. The body of the deceased was moved to Kendu Adventist Hospital Mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
