Police officer arrested for being of 13 tonnes of sandalwood, 14 kilograms of cannabis sativa and assault rifle.
The cop has been placed before Kahawa Law courts on Wednesday morning, after he was nabbed with over 13 tonnes of Sandalwood, 14 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and an assault rifle.
The officer, Calvin Juma Boy Ombata, Superintendent of police serving as the the OCPD Samburu East, in Samburu county, was nabbed after two police land cruisers of registration numbers GKA 237Y Toyota Land cruiser and Isuzu FTS lorry registration number GKB 870T, were discovered in his compound on September, 27, 2022, loaded to capacity with the mentioned consignment.
Prior to his arrest, serious crimes investigations unit detectives had got wind off the illegal consignment and raced to the senior officer’s home where the discovery and his apprehension was effected.
Also nabbed during the crackdown were two police drivers Constable Patrick Murigi and Corporal Festus Saha.
Mr Juma Boy denied the charges of being in possession of the sandalwood which is against section section 94(4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013 and was freed on a bond of Sh2 million and an alternative of a similar amount.
