All Kenyans should be aware of this crucial USSD code that have been shared by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company. In a message released today through Facebook, all citizens have been urged to report suspected vandals by dialing *977#. Therefore this will enable the country to minimize the cases of vandalism hence few cases of blackouts.
According to the recent statistics from KPLC, it indicates that vandalism, meter tempering and power theft through illegal connections are costing the company a whooping among of Shs 500 million losses per year.
Therefore they revealed that those vandalising street lighting and transformers were rolling back the gains made through the last mile connectivity programme.
Occasionally, Kenya Power customers will experience power Interruptions due to vandalism to electrical equipment. Remember that vandalism of electrical equipment jeopardises the individual's safety, the public's safety as well as safety of Kenya power employees.
Damage to Kenya power properties can lead to loss of electricity for entire communities including essential services such as hospitals and other emergency services.
Moreover this vandalism is occasioned by the rising demand for copper wires in the world market and whose price is quite attractive, therefore vandals have risked their lives to rip transformers from high voltage transmission lines.
More worryingly, the toxic transformer oil which is allegedly sold to crooked food vendors is also largely targeted. Therefore to report cases of vandalism just dial *977# then follow prompts.
Blessed Bena: It think Kenya Power and Lighting Company is doing a great job, as a matter of fact let us report all the cases of vandalism. Therefore this will enable us minimize the cases of vandalism as well as the power outages in the country.
Wendebi Alice: That is a good idea, however i think you likely to be subjected to the courts as a major witness. But I think we should not fear reporting these cases.
