The upcoming Tespok Autism Half-Marathon will be promoted by a cooperation between technology service firm Tespok and Commonwealth 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala. The event is scheduled for November 27th, Sunday.
The major objective of the competition, according to Tespok Chairman Hillary Itela, is to "change society and access talents from all corners of the country."
“We believe that introducing our first ever autism marathon is our next step into not only transforming our society but also mining impeccable talent and perspectives that will bring creative and new solutions in Kenya at the global level.” Omanyala claims in a statement read by his local manager Jama Noroddin that the race's emphasis on inclusivity in the community is what inspired him to participate.
“When I heard about the initiative I thought that it seeks to drive a need that would have already been met. It is for this reason I am actively choosing to participate in this to make a meaningful contribution to the society. I am who I am today because of the community therefore we can’t underestimate the power of it.” he added.
Over 20 athletes have confirmed their attendance, and the competition will begin at Nyayo Stadium.
The 21km, 10km, 5km, and 2km distances are the four divisions of the race and the winner of the 21-kilometer race has a chance to walk away with KSh 300,000.
