Prepare for Heavy Rains in the Next 5 Days if You Live in the Following Counties

The new month of September has started off very well and there have been weather changes in various parts of the country. The Kenya Meteorological Department has been working hard to provide timely warnings on accessible meteorological and climatological to the general public. This has enhanced the infusion of scientific knowledge among the people hence facilitate the exploitation of natural resources for national resources for national and regional development.

The company has been able to do this through the development of an efficient telecommunication system for rapid collection and dissemination of meteorological and climatological information to the general public in accordance to the World Meteorological Organization.

The Kenya Meteorological Department working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has provided weather forecasting updates whose validity period ranges from 4th to 8th September 2018.

According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County. Occasional cloudy conditions accompanied with light rains is also expected in the above areas.

Regional weather forecast valid from 4th to 8th September 2021

1.The Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Central and South Rift Valley ;[Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties],

Morning rains are expected in these areas during the forecast period. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are also expected with a chance of night showers over a few places during the forecast period. Maximum temperatures of 30°C and minimum temperatures of 11°C are also expected.

2.The Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County; [Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties],

The residents of these areas should be ready for cold and cloudy conditions with a chance of light rains being experienced during the forecast period. The mornings are likely to be cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers over a few areas. Cloudy nights are also expected with a chance of night showers over several parts. Maximum temperatures are likely to be at 25°C while minimum temperatures of 7°C are also expected.

3.The Coastal Strip; [Mombasa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties],

Mornings are likely to experience a chance of showers over several parts accompanied by sunny intervals during the forecast period. The afternoons are generally likely to be sunny but showers are expected on the third day of this forecast. The nights are expected to have cloudy conditions with maximum temperatures of 31°C and minimum temperatures of 15°C are also expected.
