Rigathi Gachagua asked salaried Kenyans to contribute a small percentage of their salary to help the government in feeding citizens affected by drought.
Gachagua said the money would go a long way in providing food and water to Kenyans in drought-stricken areas.The Kenya Kwanza government has rolled out a paybill and account number to be used by Kenyans of good will.
The National Drought Response Steering Committee has today released the PayBill and bank account details that will allow Kenyans to donate cash to assist those impacted by the ongoing drought," Gachagua said.
On November 26, Gachagua announced that Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) and National Youth Service (NYS) officers will be contributing part of their salary to help starving Kenyans.Our men and women in the KDF have offered to forgo a one-day salary to contribute to the drought response kitty,” Gachagua announced then.
Mr Gachagua said that the government intends to raise more funds through the taskforce with the aim of addressing the short and long term effects of the drought.The DP said that part of the plan will include the distribution of food to the affected families, cash transfer programmes as well as other long term projects aimed at addressing the effects of global warming.
