An accident that occurred last night along Namanga-Nairobi highway claimed the lives of four individuals, among them being an 8 month old baby who died on the spot.
According to witnesses, the matatu driver was overtaking another vehicle when he suddenly hit a donkey then swerved off the road before crashing into the nearby ditch.
Kajiado Central sub-county police commander, Daudi Loronyokwe, confirmed that the four who died on the spot were taken to Nairobi City mortuary while several others are nursing severe injuries in Kajiado referral hospital.
Mr. Loronyokwe expressed his frustration concerning the increasing number of accidents along the highway; just a month ago two other people died in an accident involving a motorcycle and a trailer.
He gave an assurance of following up with the cases to see what can be done differently to mitigate the issue; in the meantime, drivers have been caution to observe traffic rules.
