Following demolitions that were witnessed in the past one week, several houses were demolished rendering thousands of families homeless including expectant mothers and children, Nairobi Region Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi and Embakasi Police Station OCPD have been sent on compulsory leave.
The demolitions were done to pave way for the expansion of Catherine Ndereba Road that will connect the Nairobi expressway with Industrial Area and also open up the slum for business.
The resident accused the government of not informing them before the demolition. This forced the villagers to attack the officers who claimed that this was their original land and did not need to be asked to be transferred to another place also they did not want to go. The police officers responded by throwing tear gas canister at the angry mob leading to injuries and even death of some people during the Confrontation.
Sending the two county police bosses on compulsory leave is a sigh of relief to the residents who are crying that Mukuru Kwa Njenga land was their land and they had nowhere to go to.
