Five killed, nine injured after matatu rolled severally in Lurambi.
The five people died on the spot, nine others injured after matatu they were travelling in rolled several times at Lurambi, Kakamega County.
Police said that the vehicle was heading to Mumias.
The injured were taken to the Sub-County Hospital for emergency treatment.
The crash occurred after one of the vehicle’s rear tyres burst before it rolled several times, killing the five on the spot.
Kakamega County police commander said the vehicle was moving at a high speed.
The police boss further said the crash occurred near a spot where six people perished after a speeding lorry hit an elderly man who was crossing the road before the driver lost control of it.
The lorry rolled several times, killing its conductor on the spot on Saturday.
"It is unfortunate that the area is turning out to be a black spot,'' he said.
The county police boss said they had arrested the driver of the ill-fated matatu. The driver suffered minor injuries and was assisting with investigations.
He urged the motorists to avoid speeding and adhere to traffic rules.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have since been transferred to the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
