On 9th November 2021, Eldoret based court ordered that Ibrahim Rotich, the husband of the Slain Agnes Tirop be taken for a mental examination before the court trial is decided. He was arraigned to appear before Eldoret Judge in court on suspicion of Tirop's murder.
The report from Tirop's House CCTV footage from police scrutiny revealed that Rotich was at the scene during the incident and this is possibly one of the reasons that prompted the court to request for medical inspection of the suspect before the case is heard.
Tirop who was Kenya's marathoner and world Olympic champion having won several medals abroad was actually found murdered at her house in Itein, Rift Valley region. Tirop's Husband was later found by Police in the coastal city of Mombasa allegedly trying to escape.
According to sources, the circumstances that may prompt the court to request for mandatorily mental test of a suspect include if the information gathered in the evidence are questionable on status of the largest companies suspect. Either it is suspected that the man was under influence of drugs, history of mental illness resurfaces or previou criminal charges become related.
