The burial ceremony of the former Head of Public Service, John Mitala is underway at Kiwomya village in Kalungu District.
Mitala, the ex head of Public Service, died last week.
He also served as secretary to the cabinet and he succumbed while undergoing medical treatment at Masaka referral hospital.
Mitala has reportedly fell ill for sometime and was only recently discharged from hospital.
He was taken back to his home in Kalungi district to recover.
Ugandan Information minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi confirmed Mitala’s death.
Mitala served until the year 2021 after serving in the public service for at least 48 years rising to head it in 2002 after President Museveni appointed him permanent secretary.
A sombre mood engulfed Kiwomya village when the hearse carrying John's body pulled up.
Mourners dressed in black with green scarfs around their shoulders moved to carry the white casket.
Leaders mourned John Mitala as a dedicated civil servant. He was termed as a jovial person with an infectious laughter, beautiful and intelligent.
