According to standard news five people died on the spot and three others were taken to hospital in a critical condition after the accident at Engbat, Mackinon Road along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Christmas Day.
The accident involved a BMW and a Subaru driving in Mombasa, which at 10 collided head-on during the incident. Two passengers were burned beyond recognition after the BMW burst into flames on impact.
There were 6 people in the Subaru, 3 of whom died and the rest were taken to Moi Referral Hospital, Voi, Taitataweta County. Subaru reportedly brought local tourists to Mombasa. Kinango Street police boss Fredrik Ombaka said: "This is very unfortunate and I would like to remind drivers to be careful, especially during the festive period. Two passengers in the BMW suffered serious burns. The accident was allegedly caused by overloading. We ask drivers to find time to rest when they feel tired. "
The bodies were taken to the Moi Referral Hospital, Voi, while the wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to the nearby McKinnon Highway Police Station.
