Few days ago, a video surfaced online where a senior police officer was captured telling Kenyans to take the law into their own hands in the event of a crime happening within their area.
The officer, Bondeni Police Station Commander (OCS) Gemenet Kimutai, urged the congregation to treat crime suspects with contempt, claiming that they would be acting within their mandate.

Kimutai said there was no need to protect a small population, causing people a sleepless night in the name of adhering to the law.
Police have broken silence on the viral which sparked mixed reactions on social media.
Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo has defended the officer's sentiments. Mwanzo said Kimutai's statements were taken out of context.
The Nakuru County police boss further stated that Kimutai's intention was to call for public support in the fight against crime.

Cases of mugging and robbery with violence have increased in various parts of the country. Daring thugs have been reported to go to extreme ends of stabbing their victims and robbing them.
