Safaricom sales agents in Konoin Bomet county has this evening escapes death by a whisker after a van they were in caught fire. The van experienced a puncture and while being repaired the engine burst into flames.
Narrating the ordeal, one said they were seated in the van when the driver alighted to check what was happening after the fault. They smelt a "burn" and within no time the engine sparked and burst into flames, they alighted fast.
"We were on our way back after successful marketing at Konoin and when we got to Kaptebengwet the vehicle suddenly slowed down and stopped. The driver got out to check what was wrong so as some of us. He went to the backside maybe to check the tires and that was when we smelt something burning. Within no time the front side burst into flames," Betsy narrated.
She further revealed that the companies belongings and their stuff couldn't be saved but they thank God for saving them.
Safaricom company is yet to release a statement after the incident. The Kaptebengwet location chief said he had reported the matter to Mogogosiek police station and officers were on their way to the scene to ascertain what exactly caused the fire.
"It could be overheating, the van has been doing rounds for the whole day. The van burnt to ashes and it's better than no one was injured. Everything in the car is burning. I have informed Mogogosiek police station about the incident and investigative officers are on the way here to ascertain what caused the fire," Charles Langat the chief said.
The stranded agents were required to make a statement at Mogogosiek police station to help in the investigation.
