Government Announces Plans To Construct First Ever Airstrip In Bomet After A Top Meeting

Roads, Transport, and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen alongside Roads Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, on Thursday 16th March, 2023 met leaders from Bomet County to discuss the state of infrastructure in the County.

According to the cabinet secretary, those who attended the meeting include; Senator Wakili Hillary Sigei, Members of parliament Richard Yegon for Bomet East, Victor Koech for Chapalungu constituency, Richard Kilel member of parliament for Bomet Central, Konoin MP Brighton Yegon, and Francis Sigei for Sotik.

According to Murkomen, the Meeting gave leaders an opportunity to highligh for him a number roads and bridges that need urgent Government attention. He said that despite the financial challenges being experienced in the country, they will find a way of ensuring that the projects are financed.

"Despite the financial constraints that we are facing as a country, we are looking at adopting interventions that will allow contractors to return to sites and complete assigned projects within the shortest time possible." The Cabinet Secretary posted on his official social media pages after the meeting.

Further, Murkomen announced that there are plans to construct an Airstrip in Bomet county a project which he says will open the up the South Rift for movement and transportation of goods.

"Working together with Kenya Airports Authority and the County Government of Bomet, we are also exploring the possibility of lconstructing an airstrip in Bomet that will open up the South Rift region and facilitate faster movement of people and goods." Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen added.

This is expected to boost the economy of the county and the South Rift region at large.
