Government Sets The Record Straight Over Night Travels After Lifting The Curfew

The government of Kenya has announced the lifting of night travel ban that was imposed sinxe last year. In a statement, the Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said that public service vehicles can now operate at night but must adhere to the Covid-19 containment measures that were issued by the Ministry of Health. He encouraged members of the transport sector to embrace Covid-19 vaccination in line with the guidelines given. CS Macharia said the move would fast-track economic recovery.

He also thanked the leadership and all the workers in the transport sector for their relentless support to the government efforts of mitigating the spread of Covid-19 virus. Kenyans on Mashujaa Day welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to lift the 19-month nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew.

The huge gathering that attended the 58th Mashujaa Day celebrations at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County broke into ululations when the Head of State closed his speech with the announcement that he had lifted the curfew which has been blamed for the loss of livelihoods and businesses since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March last year. 

There was more good news for Kenyans as the President also unveiled a raft of interventions 13 in total to cushion Kenyans against the ravages of the pandemic.
