Residents of Mwonge in Tharaka-Nithi County are still finding it hard to come to terms with an incident whereby a pregnant woman died after falling into a well.
Confirming the incident is the Tharaka-Nithi County Emergency Department Manager, Alex Mugambi who said that Rosalid Kawira, the deceased, accidentally fell into the open well while she was fetching water on Friday.
The county emergency officers rushed to the scen when they were called, retrieved the body and took it to the Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation.
The police reports say that the deceased passed away due to suffocation in the five feet deep well. Locals have since been urged to be careful while using boreholes especially in this rainy season.
A family to the deceased said that she noticed that something was wrong when Kawira took long to return to the house making her to check on her only to realise that the tragic incident had happened.
