In the heart of Western Kenya region lies a traditional bridge which connects two counties. This bridge was constructed in the late 90's due to the huge number of people whose lives were taken by River Nzoia which is just underneath

The Omufunje footbridge connects Kakamega and Bungoma County. Area residents constructed it with poles, pieces of wood and ropes. Despite devolution, this footbridge has never been improvised by the two counties

There are many tales surrounding this bridge since crossing it to the other side is not a walk in the park. This is bearing in mind that the waves in River Nzoia makes it to swing side to side thus crossing it is not for the fainthearted.

According to area elders, one must cross this bridge when he or she is dead silent. This is because noise or screaming can make the spirit of the dead in Nzoia River to wake up and this might trigger one to fall in the vast river
