Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi commonly known as 'flag man', was born in Ibadan, Oyo state. Before his retirement he worked as a civil servant in Nigeria, he narrates how at the age of 23 he entered into a competition to design the Nigerian flag and luckly won.
However, after Michaels retirement which was due to his health his pensions were so irregular and it got to a point where he can't afford food to feed himself. Where his neighbors had to start handing him food and clothes to try and hide the shame of the man who they consider a legend. He continued to show his loyalty to his country as he build a small house and painted it with the colors of Nigerian flag.
Michael now lives with his son in the poorest area in Nigeria known as Ibadan village, this is after his wife left some years back due to his health condition, he lives like a forgotten hero due to the disregard from the Nigerian government to top it off they have not paid his pensions for years after his retirement.
