Deputy President Condemned Police Officers for Disrupting the Burial of Mahoo MCA Ronald Sagurani

Deputy president William Ruto has condemned the police after the officers disrupted the burial preparations for Mahoo MCA Ronald Sagurani on Tuesday morning.

Hon Sagurani was a Jubilee Party ward representative and Taita Taveta County Assembly leader of the minority. He passed away on Tuesday, August 17 in a hospital in Mombasa.

The police in Taita Taveta county had cited violation of Covid-19 rules for the move. The officers destroyed tents that were placed at Kemri grounds in a bid to stop people from attending the burial ceremony that was to be graced by the deputy president.

The family was forced to hold the ceremony at his home in Russia hence locking out many mourners.

Deputy president apologized to the family of Ronald Sagurani while addressing mourners. He condemned the act as shameful and apologized on behalf of the government.

However, Taita Taveta sub county police commander Charles Barasa said mourners were scattered due to Covid-19 guidelines.

He also said he did not want many people to attend the burial following the presidential order that allows a certain number of people to attend in a funeral.
