Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance party, posted a message on his Facebook page on Thursday morning, March 9, 2023, announcing Mama Grace Onyango's passing. A letter from Raila was posted on Facebook, in which she expressed sadness over the loss of Mama Grace Onyango on a day when the world was honoring women's accomplishments.
"I accept the departure of Mama Grace Onyango with tremendous sadness on a day when we are all commemorating the achievements of women," Raila said in a statement. Mama Grace Onyango was praised by Raila as a trailblazing woman who has led from the front.
The leader of the Azimio party also lamented the loss of Mama Grace as a teacher who was an able defender of her roots and a courageous articulator of national concerns.
Kenyans on Facebook joined him in mourning for Mama Grace, with some of them stating that they had lost a wonderful woman. "May this legendary Heroin rest in peace. You really put up a valiant fight for this nation, and you will always be great, "One of the Kenyans wept.
