The Mark X car , which had five occupants on board, was moving towards Westlands area from Nairobi town, and the Nissan matatu, which had twelve occupants, was heading to Pipeline area.
Langata Road traffic police officer Jeffrey Kent confirmed the incident saying there are six casualties.
"Thursday evening accident involved a personal car, Mark X model of registration number plate KCT 215T and Nissan Matatu. The personal car was overspeeding while trying to join the busy highway when the accident happened," Jeffrey said.
He added, "We lost three people during the evening crash, three people suffered serious injuries."
The three people who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Langata hospital for emergency treatment.
However, the body of the three people were moved to Nairobi City mortuary pending postmortem and further identification.
The wreckage of the two motorvehicle was towed to Langata police station for inspection purposes.
