On Friday night, police in Githurai 44, Nairobi County, shot and killed a thug who had ambushed a man just outside his gate.
Officers from the nearby Kasarani Police Station say the suspect ambushed his intended victim, but the investigators were able to derail his scheme quickly.
Police officers in their car heard a commotion and sprang into action, pursuing the thug.
The robber had already successfully forced his victim to empty his pockets at gunpoint, and a motorcycle, thought to be the getaway vehicle, was racing towards the crime scene from the opposite direction.
As the police saw the motorcycle coming, they started to chase, but the rider quickly did a U-turn and rode off, leaving his partner behind.
The suspect's Czeska pistol, chambered for 9mm, was found by the police after he was killed. Ballistic tests will be performed on the firearm, the police added, to determine whether or not it has been used in criminal activity in the vicinity.
The unidentified suspect's body has been transported to the City Mortuary. There is a manhunt on for the second suspect, who rode away on a motorcycle.
This happened barely two days after investigators in the sprawling Githurai and Kasarani areas issued a warning to offenders.
