Tenants of a 5 storey building in Mirema, Roysambu, Nairobi county have been ordered by the county government in conjunction with the National building and Construction Authority to vacate as soon as possible after it developed cracks.
The order came just a week after tenants of a 6 storey building in Ruiru were evacuated within 45 minutes after the building suddenly developed cracks.
The building collapsed the following day at 4am. The owner was arrested in Ruiru town.
Construction authorities revealed that they had only authorized building of the first floor but the owner continued building up to the 6th floor under unclear circumstances.
An owner of a building that collapsed in Ruaka while still under construction was also arrested while on her way to the United States and is set to be charged with murder since the collapse led to death of a man and his wife who were living in an adjacent residential home.
