Three fishermen have died in Mpeketoni, Lamu county after their boat capsized in Indian ocean on Saturday night. It is alleged that they were fishing together with other two men as they normally do. Unfortunately, their boat was struck by strong winds and storm.
However, two of the five managed to swim for three hours to the Mpeketoni shore to ask for help. On return, they found the boat had sunk and they did not manage to save their colleagues. Of the three were Khasim, Faki and Ismael.
The three came from Ngomeni, Lamu but came now lives in Mpeketoni for fishing. The five went on their normal routine without any expectations of losing one of their members. However, it's a common risk that every fisherman takes whenever they sail into the ocean to do fishing.
A team of divers and area authority have started a search into the waters to retrieve the bodies of the three.
Fishermen have also been advised to be careful during fishing and avoid the waters when the winds are strong
