The incident comes barely a month after Lamu Woman Representative Ruweida Obo and 14 other people sustained serious injuries after a boat they were travelling in capsized.

The team, which included government officials was headed to a sensitisation event in Amu Island where they were to meet the regions chiefs.

Three of the occupants then fell into the Indian Oceans but fortunately, no one died.

A report by the Kenya Maritime Authority released in mid-December 2021, indicated that at least 11 people lost their lives on the county's shores since January.

166 others were however rescued by the Kenya Maritime Authority in the same period.

Lamu Fishermen and Sailors organisation has called upon the county and national governments to form a special board that will address marine disasters in the region.
