Kenyans have come under fire from Peter Mwanzo the commander of Nakuru County, for sitting back and watching as their friends were robbed by armed bandits with knives and guns who had penetrated urban areas.
Mwanzo claimed in a speech on November 14 that the actions encourage gangs to continue committing crimes because they take use of fear to spread terror.
Because there is strength in numbers he believed that Kenyans should pursue criminals who assault innocent civilians.
You cannot stand by and watch as a fellow Kenyan is attacked because tomorrow it will be you. Help the victim and go after the robber to stop him from hurting anyone else said Mwanzo.
The county police chief acknowledged that the police officer to citizen ratio does not meet international standards and he pleaded on Kenyans to assist the police in apprehending criminals.
The Arrest By Members of the Public provision in the law permits citizens to apprehend offenders. We are not gods we cannot be everywhere therefore they can arrest them and bring them to the police he said.
Additionally Mwanzo defended the police officer who was shown on tape.
