Mwingi Couple Speaks On How They Were Informed of the Bus Tragedy

A wedding that was going on at Nuu Catholic Church is at the centre of the Mwingi Bus sinking sad story. The couple Mr. David Mutua and Mrs. Veronica Syombua have opened up on how they received the sad news during the happiest moments of their lives.

Speaking to the Media, Mr. Mutua and his wife of five decades are yet to come to terms with the passing on of nine close family members, they lost two daughters and seven grandchildren in the accident. "We knew that something was wrong when we saw the priest begin consulting in low tones with other members of the church," Mutua, recounted.

The presiding priest Mr. Peter Kilonzo did not tell the couple about the tragic accident until the wedding was over. In the middle of their big day, the couple received the bad news that completely shuttered them and put an end to their smiles.

The couple revealed that they had to cancel a wedding reception that had been planned after learning about the accident. David and Syombua quickly rushed to the scene only to identify bodies of her their two daughters and seven grandchildren being displayed few metres from the river.

Jane Mutua, who perished in the sinking had organized and cattered for the wedding ceremony of her father. Mutua and Syombua had married each other in 1966 through a traditional wedding, to show his commitment to Christianity, Mutua was compelled to arrange a white wedding.
