Makueni County OCPD Dismas Mutula while confirming the incident said the deceased was trying to overtake a lorry infront of him with the bicycle he was cycling on when the Nissan knocked him down and lost his life on the spot.
Mr Mutula said that the driver of the Nissan escaped after causing the accident and that the police have launched a manhunt to arrest him.
“My office was notified at around 9am, a 16-year-old boy was riding along the road when he was knocked down by a moving Nissan, it is so sad that he died on the spot. The Matatu Nissan driver didn’t stop instead he accelerated and fled the scene,” said Mutula.
Mr Mutula however, urged pedestrians and motorists to be cautious while on the road and warned motorists flouting traffic rules of dire consequences.
The police confirmed that the body of the boy was taken to the Makueni Level Four Hospital mortuary awaiting burial arrangements.
The Makueni County accident came barely a month after the Makueni senator, Mutula kilonzo junior, urged all road users to be cautious while on the road and obey all traffic rules and regulations as the safety of others entirely depend on them.
Police have launched investigations into the alleged accident and according to police reports a full statement will be processed in due course.
